Penny Linn Update: 3PL Transition FAQs

Exciting news! We’re transitioning to a 3PL this Friday, February 6th at 3PM EST

What is a 3PL?

A 3PL stands for a third (3) party (P) logistics (L) company. Basically a warehouse to store and ship out all our orders. All your favorite companies (like Hill House, Tuckernuck, Shopbop, etc.) use them!

What does this mean for me?

Nothing changes on your end other than a better shopping and shipping experience from Penny Linn. We’ve dealt with the challenges of scale in the past few years and found that our standard of service isn’t where we want it to be. So we’re hoping that having a professional shipping team will help alleviate future problems.

What made you choose to move to a 3PL?

TLDR: We ran out of space. Space for our inventory, space for our team, space to grow! We briefly looked at warehouse space to keep everything in house but realized that our same growing pains would find us there too. So we turned to the professionals and researched (and found) an amazing warehouse fulfillment team who is able to understand the specialty of needlepoint and all that comes with it.

Moving to a 3PL will help ensure that all orders go out in a timely and correct manner. It will allow us to continue to grow, hold a larger backstock (read: less out of stock inventory), and continue to launch new and exciting products.

How will this improve customer experience?

  • Quicker shipping

  • Less order errors

  • Allow us to resume kitting

  • Provide us room for more storage space and less out of stock items

Are there any other major changes?

  1. Dye Lots - We are no longer able to check dye lots for customers looking for specific thread. Our current system for thread will keep the same dye lots together for kits, but won't be able to check specific numbers on request. It is best to visit our store location if you’re looking for something specific.

  2. We are not able to cancel, edit, or combine orders - due to how quickly orders will move through the fulfillment process, we are unable to make any edits to the order after it is placed, so please make sure everything is correct prior to submitting your order.

More exciting news… restocks are coming!

Restocks will start on Friday February 6th and will roll in as they are received. All canvases have to be bagged, barcoded, organized, and counted before they can be put into inventory. Because we have thousands of canvases restocking of at least 700 different designs, it will start to trickle in as they are able.

The best way to stay in the loop is to sign up for back in stock notifications on our site. The moment inventory is updated, you will be emailed and be the first to know!

A few more notes…

International shipping will be temporarily paused as we transition to the 3PL, but we will reactivate it as soon as possible!

There will inevitably be kinks we need to work out as we transfer to the 3PL, so please reach out to us at hello@pennylinndesigns.com with any questions, concerns or problems you encounter and we will do everything we can to answer your questions, concerns and correct any issues!
