Meet Elisa May! Born and raised in Darmstadt, Germany, living in New York City.
General Needlepoint
I found out about Needlepoint through social media and watched all and any videos I could find! My first needlepoint project was an Abigail Cecile chart called “Christmas Gift”.
My favorite stitch is the Basketweave stitch. Although it's basic, I love the way it finishes on the back! I would really like to try the Queen stitch, but I haven't found the right project for it yet!
I really like Tilli Tomas Essentials.
About Your Designs
I was really intrigued by the idea of painting the canvas before stitching. It's actually one of the reasons I wanted to start needlepoint. I loved the idea of there being a few very distinct steps in the overall process: the painting, then stitching, and finally the finishing of the piece. Once I finish a project I can't wait to get started on the next because I get to paint again… it makes each part of the process exciting to get to!

I'm mostly inspired by items and memories from my childhood. Florals, cute animals, and stripes are some of my favorite things. I try to incorporate at least one of them into almost every design!
I loved coming up with and painting the Bunny and Bambi canvas!
The Cherubs have been such a fun and quick little stitch!
Not to overthink it. I find the painting very peaceful and a great way to get to know the design before stitching.

Sewing! I’ve been getting really into pattern-making and Haute couture finishing of Garments.
Pencil and paper, for when inspiration for new designs hits, and a little tin box with all the essentials: needles, a needle threader, embroidery scissors, and tacks.
I tend to rewatch shows I've already seen a million times. Right now, I'm rewatching The Office!
I don't listen to podcasts often, but I listen to Call Her Daddy when there is a really good guest on.

A huge tapestry for a nursery. I'm talking 6' x 4'. It might be cartoonishly large to look good in a nursery, but I'd still love to make something that large and add it to my portfolio.
Stitching through my stash!!! I go through periods of not being able to stitch due to migraines and vision issues but I really am happiest when I can have time to rot and stitch.
