From there, navigate to our beginner canvases section of the website to browse our recommendations for new needlepointers. It can be difficult to know where to start, so we curated a selection of our favorite beginner items for you to take out the guess work for you.
When choosing your first needlepoint canvas there are a few things to keep in mind. There are different sizes of “mesh” the actual canvas that the design is painted on, and different threads to use based on what mesh size you are choosing. As a beginner, you may find it easier to choose a 13 mesh canvas, which means larger stitches (easier to see) and typically less intricate designs. There are also great 18 mesh small projects with simple designs that would be a great starting point. We also would recommend starting small, with something like an keychain or an ornament. Save the stockings and belts for later on in your needlepoint journey - they are a commitment!
